A. William Wilberforce (1759-1833) – A British politician who fought tirelessly for the abolition of slavery.
B. Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) – Writer and theologian who was hanged for his part in the Germany resistance during WWII.
C. Samuel Rutherford (1600-1661) – His book “Lex Rex” advocated limited government and that the law was king.
D. Socrates (469-399 BC) – His vocal commitment to justice and the pursuit of goodness clashed with the Athenian government of his day and may have led to his execution.
E. Gandhi (1869-1948) major political and spiritual leader of India who emphasized non-violent civil disobedience.
F. Jesus of Nazareth – The son of God. The example to mankind of how God wants us to live. Really spoke truth to power.
G. Martin Luther (1483-1546) – German monk and a leader in the Protestant Reformation who challenged the power of the papacy.
H. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008) – Recipient of the Nobel prize in literature in 1970 for his writings that exposed the Soviet labor camps.
I. Martin Luther King (1929-1968) Clergyman and Civil Rights Leader who fought to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through non-violent civil disobedience
J. Moses – Author of the Torah. Led the Hebrew slaves from Egypt and was given the Ten Commandments from God.
K. Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826) – Principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.
